About Our Research Group
Welcome to the Sofyantoro group at the Laboratory of Animal Physiology, Faculty of Biology, Universitas Gadjah Mada, Indonesia. We are a dedicated team of scientists committed to advancing the understanding of animal venom and toxins in Indonesia.
Research Areas
Our research group focuses on several key areas related to animal venom and toxins:
- Examine the Impact of Venom on Physiological Parameters
Conduct comprehensive analyses of venom-induced alterations in hematological profiles and tissue histopathology, providing insight into systemic and localized toxic effects. - Investigate Biomedical Applications of Bioactive Venom-Derived Peptides
Explore the therapeutic potential of peptides isolated from animal venoms and toxins, focusing on their development as candidates for antimicrobial agents, anticancer therapies, neuroprotective drugs, and other biomedical applications. - Identify Antivenom Compounds from Diverse Sources
Screen and characterize potential antivenom agents derived from phytochemicals, synthetic small molecules, and plasma-derived endogenous venom inhibitors, aiming to enhance treatment efficacy and broaden therapeutic options. - Apply Multiomics Approaches to Decipher Venom Composition and Biosynthesis
Integrate proteomics, transcriptomics, and genomics to comprehensively profile venom components and elucidate the underlying biosynthetic pathways, advancing the understanding of venom evolution and informing novel therapeutic strategies.
Collaborations and Partnerships
We actively seek collaborations with academic institutions, research centers, industry partners, and healthcare organizations to foster interdisciplinary research and maximize the impact of our findings.
